For dear friends and colleagues near and far, it’s my pleasure to share some important news.
Ebony and I are expecting a little boy to join our family toward the end of May. We’re very excited about this next chapter together.
And if that wasn’t enough excitement, Ebony’s debut graphic novel Hot Comb arrives in mid-May, too! The early reviews are very encouraging, and if you’d like to support an emerging author you can pre-order Hot Comb via IndieBound or Amazon.
Life with our little one will be full of adventures as we tour to support Ebony and Hot Comb. If you’re in Denver, there will be a reading at Tattered Cover in June. And then, with the little guy in tow, we’ll be in San Diego for Comic-Con (July; Ebony’s a special guest!), New York City for the Brooklyn Book Festival (September), Portland for the Portland Book Festival (November), with likely other events added throughout the fall, too.
As for my work, I will be on leave from CU Denver during the Fall, 2019 semester (August through December). I will continue to support ThinqStudio as our campus digital pedagogy adventure heads into its third year. And, of course, I’ll be facilitating Marginal Syllabus conversations, including additional connected learning activities for teacher educators that build upon the Summer, 2019 syllabus (join us!). As for conferences, I’ll be attending the Connected Learning Summit at UC Irvine in October (I’m co-editing the 2019 proceedings), and the NCTE Annual Convention in Baltimore in November (presenting about the Marginal Syllabus).
Despite those activities, my leave from CU Denver means that I’m not teaching courses, I’m not dutifully serving on committees, and I’m not answering work email – that’ll be fun 🙂
Here’s to Kalir Family Adventures throughout 2019.
